Trams - Busses - Metro - Taxi - Car Rentals

There are numerous ways to get around Prague, some are obviously better than others. The public transport system is very good and by using a combination of trams, metro and busses you can get almost anywhere in the city with little effort, supprisingly even at rush hour ( if there is such a thing in Prague) the system seems to cope very well. If you don't fancy public transport then you can always take a taxi, they are everywhere except when you want one (Murpheys 10th law of reality) but beware you will as a tourist get ripped off.

Car Rentals

There are car rentals popping up everywhere in the city now, some big international agencies as well as small outfits. You will mainly find Opels, Ford's, Skoda's and Fiats and other European cars for hire although I do not know as yet of any "Executive" rentals ie BMW, Mercedes, Porsche etc but I'm sure they will be here very shortly.
Car rates are generally quoted in German Marks (DEM), Euro's or Czech Koruna (CZK) and as such the price varies according to the exchange rate's, however prices start from 1,600 CZK for an Opel Corsa, 27 Euro for a Fiat Punto or 105 DEM for a Ford Ka all per day. As you can see unless you are the World Bank then you need to do your homework with a calculator and sorry I don't own one. Prices generally decrese after the second or third day of hire, milage is generally free and all prices are subject to 5% VAT (5% !! what I would give to pay only 5%) . Ahh yes and again some even give discounts for cash.
Most hotels will be happy to organize a car for you with their prefered company.

Metro, Busses and Trams

These are all run by the same company DP Prahy hence I will be dealing with them all in one go.

By far these are the cheapest and in my opinion most efficient way of getting around the city. The network covers the entire city and the regularity of the service is impressive, but there again I've never lived in a city. As there is so much information I have decided to redirect you tempararily to their own website dp-praha.
